How this weighted grade calculator works
Each score is multiplied by its weight, then the weighted parts are added together. Fully blank rows are ignored, while partially filled rows need both a score and a weight.
When weights do not total 100%
If weights are below 100%, the result shows the current weighted points and the remaining weight. If weights are above 100%, the calculator still shows the entered-row total but warns you to check the weights.
What this tool does not include
This tool does not apply dropped-score rules, curves, school-specific category logic or future-score predictions. Check your syllabus or gradebook for the rules that apply to your course.
Key terms and assumptionsShort notes about weighted points, remaining weight, normalized mode and course-specific rules.
- Weighted points
- By default, each row contributes score percent multiplied by weight percent divided by 100.
- Blank rows
- Fully blank rows are ignored. Active rows need both a score and a weight.
- Weights
- Weights may total below, equal to or above 100%, but the result is labelled when they do not total 100%.
- Normalized mode
- Normalized mode treats entered weights as relative shares of only the rows entered.
- Course rules vary
- This tool does not model dropped scores, curves or school-specific gradebook rules.

FAQs
How do weighted grades work?
Each score is multiplied by its weight, then the weighted parts are added together.
What if my weights do not add to 100%?
The calculator shows the remaining or extra weight and warns you to check the entered assumptions.
Can I use assignment names?
Yes. Names are useful for the row breakdown but are not required for the math.
Can scores be over 100%?
Yes. Scores over 100% are allowed for extra-credit contexts and are labelled with a warning.
Does this handle dropped assignments?
Not automatically. Enter the scores and weights after applying any dropped-score rule from your course.
What is normalized weighting?
Normalized weighting treats the entered weights as relative shares of only the rows entered. It is labelled separately from regular course weighting.
Can I export the result?
Yes. You can copy a summary or download a CSV of the weighted grade breakdown.
